Holiday Open House
On Sunday, December 4th and Sunday, December 11th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day, enjoy this once-a-year opportunity to explore the Cameron-Masland Mansion, a gracious mountain stone villa built in 1908 as a summer home. Music of the season will be provided by Celtic harpist Patricia Putz on December 4th and Joanna Roberts playing cello on December 11th.
Light refreshments will be offered throughout the afternoon each day. As in years past, recipes for the hot spiced cider and the cranberry orange cookies, which are always crowd pleasers, are included below.
All ages are welcome to attend this free event. Please join us for the festivities!
Hot Spiced Cider
When you visit the mansion on a cold December day, there's nothing like a hot cup of spiced cider to take off the chill.
In a pot, place:
|1||gallon of cider|
|1/4||cup brown sugar|
|dash of nutmeg|
|dash of salt|
Simmer until hot. Do not boil! Strain before serving.
Tip: Put spices in cheesecloth bag to eliminate straining.
Cranberry Orange Cookies
Fresh-baked cookies are always a highlight of the Holiday Open House at the Cameron-Masland Mansion. The Cranberry Orange Cookies are always a crowd pleaser. Many visitors expressed interest in obtaining the recipe. It turns out that the recipe is from the folks at Land O'Lakes. Click the following link to get the recipe:
Note: The original Land O'Lakes recipe calls for macadamia nuts, which are not included in the cookies baked at Kings Gap.
